The “Plan B” Wedding | Weyburn

I started off to post this wedding and realized that I couldn’t just put a few words.. I’m sure you’re all wondering at this point what the title of the post is implying.

Amanda and Tyler’s wedding day started off completely normal as expected. There was rain in the forecast of course but we weren’t worried, the actual ceremony wasn’t until the evening and that would give LOTS of time for mother nature to do her little half hour sprinkle..at the most…right? WRONG. The skies were growing increasingly overcast by noon, when we were getting ready to head and do “first look” pics…all was good – overcast pictures are great at that time of the day, no harsh shadows on the face..no sweating, doesn’t matter if you find a shaded spot for pictures or not…it’s great!

As we hurried to get to our “first look” location we noticed the clouds getting really dark…I mean REALLY dark..like almost black…uh-oh but, we were still ok!!! As we got to our location it was spitting rain ever so lightly…still good..I can work with a little bit of rain….all is good. We did the first look pictures and it was wonderful, beautiful bride, handsome groom – so much love between them. Then, it started to rain harder. I asked them if they would prefer to go to the vehicles and wait out the rain…you know because it’s Saskatchewan after all and I mean really how long does a Saskatchewan thunderstorm usually last? Both Amanda and Tyler decided to carry on with their pictures even though it was raining, so we worked quickly. Then it started to DOWNPOUR. All was still good, we had plenty of pictures…and really how long could a downpour last?

We raced back to our vehicles and headed out to the South Weyburn School just outside of town where we planned to do the bridal party pictures and where all the rest of the events later that day would take place. We got about 5 mins away from the South Weyburn School and there were piles and piles of HAIL everywhere coating the sides of the highway (it looked like it had snowed in July). We got to the grounds where everything was being held and get out of the vehicles only to step in ice water that was up to our ankles. We got to the tent that they had set up for later that day to find Tyler’s poor groomsmen and his family trying to fix the tent. There were massive piles of hail outside the tent (you would swear we dumped buckets and buckets of ice cubes everywhere). All of Tyler’s groomsmen said that as the storm went through they were trying to hold down the tent poles as they were being lifted off of the ground and all they could see was white…they didn’t know whether they should be holding down the tent or running for the ditch! This is one of the nasty storms that we had that ripped siding right off of people’s houses!  They continued to clean up what they could of the tent and suck as much water off the ground as they could, while a very disheartened Amanda went to go and dry her dress…surely the worst was over right?

We could see more clouds heading our way so we whipped through the bridal party pictures quickly. Just as we finished up photographing the girls, we decided to grab a few portraits of just Amanda as it started to rain again..:| Oh wait, sorry…I meant pour. We headed inside the school for cover to wait it out once again and let Amanda go get dried off…again. It poured, then poured some more…then poured MORE…and MORE. Finally an hour before everything was to start…the decision was made to move everything to the curling rink. The outdoor wedding was not going to happen…mother nature was apparently in a bad mood.

My husband (who was second shooting for me) and I headed to the curling rink and were absolutely astonished when we arrived. You would never even know that there was a mad rush to the curling rink to set everything up. It looked as though the wedding was to be held there all along. Amanda arrived and her hairdresser retouched up her hair and they prepared for the ceremony. After everything that had gone on that day, the ending result was beautiful. Two amazing people were joined in marriage. There was so much love.  I had a good giggle when I received their Thank you card in the mail with the words, we will never forget our “plan b” wedding.  This was truly one wedding that I will not soon forget:)
